About
Meet Simon
More than 40 years in golf. A lifetime of helping people enjoy the game.
Simon Buckley is a PGA Professional with more than 40 years’ experience as a golf club professional, coach and mentor to golfers of all abilities.
Throughout his career, Simon has built a reputation for making golf easier to understand.
His approach is practical, personal and refreshingly straightforward. Rather than filling a golfer’s head with technical information, Simon focuses on identifying what is actually affecting the shot, explaining it clearly and giving the player something useful they can take onto the course.
Today, that same philosophy sits at the heart of Simon Buckley Golf Trips.
Hosted golf holidays and retreats that combine excellent golf, carefully selected destinations, expert coaching and the simple pleasure of travelling with people who enjoy the game.
A lifetime in golf
Golf has been at the centre of Simon’s professional life for more than four decades.
During that time, he has coached golfers across a wide range of ages and abilities, from experienced low-handicap players to golfers who simply want to feel more confident and enjoy their weekend round.
What experience teaches you is that no two golfers are exactly the same.
They do not move in the same way.
They do not learn in the same way.
And they certainly do not all need the same golf swing.
That is why Simon’s coaching has always been built around the individual.
The objective is not to create a technically perfect-looking swing.
It is to help the golfer in front of him understand their own game, play with greater confidence and ultimately enjoy golf more.
Why golf travel?
Because sometimes the best place to improve your golf is on a golf course.
After more than 40 years working within golf clubs, Simon wanted to create something that brought together the parts of the game he enjoys most.
Coaching.
Playing.
Travelling.
Meeting people.
And spending time on great golf courses.
A hosted golf trip creates an opportunity that a conventional lesson cannot always provide.
Rather than looking at one part of the swing for an hour, Simon gets to see how a golfer actually plays.
How they prepare for a round.
The clubs they choose.
The shots they attempt.
How they react when something goes wrong.
How they manage a difficult hole.
And where shots are genuinely being lost.
Those observations often reveal far more than another basket of balls on a driving range.
Coaching that fits around the holiday
Simon is very clear about one thing.
You are still on holiday.
These are not intensive training camps and there is no expectation that you spend every spare hour working on your swing.
The coaching is designed to complement the trip.
It may involve a range session before a round.
Some short-game work.
A conversation about course management.
A small swing adjustment.
Or a few words while walking between shots.
Sometimes the most useful piece of coaching is simply having an experienced PGA Professional beside you when a question occurs.
Why does that shot keep going right?
Why am I struggling from this lie?
Should I really be hitting driver here?
Why does my golf disappear after one bad hole?
Those are the conversations Simon enjoys.
The aim is not to give you more to think about.
It is usually to give you less.
A host as well as a coach
Good golf matters. So does good company.
The success of a golf trip is not measured entirely by the scorecards.
Simon is there to host the experience as well as coach the golf.
That means creating a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where guests feel comfortable whether they have arrived with friends, as a couple or completely on their own.
Small groups are an important part of that.
They allow the coaching to remain personal, but they also make it much easier for people to get to know one another.
Many golfers worry about joining a trip by themselves.
They need not.
Golf has a remarkable ability to bring people together.
A few holes into the first round and everybody has something to talk about.
By the end of the trip, the golf is often only part of what people remember.
More than just golf
The destination matters too.
Simon believes that a golf holiday should feel like a genuine holiday.
The course is important, but so are the hotel, the surroundings, the food, the weather and everything that happens once the clubs are put away.
That is why each destination is considered as a complete experience.
There should be excellent golf, but there should also be somewhere you are happy to return to after the round.
Somewhere to relax.
Somewhere to have dinner.
Somewhere to sit with a drink and talk about the day.
And enough time in the programme to enjoy being away.
From Mediterranean sunshine to mountain golf and specialist retreats, every trip is designed to offer something beyond simply another eighteen holes.
The Golf Yoga Method
Helping golfers move better and enjoy the game for longer.
Alongside his golf travel programme, Simon works with Specialist Golf Yoga Coach Hellen through The Golf Yoga Method.
The idea behind the partnership is simple.
A golf swing is not made by a golf club.
It is made by a person.
Mobility, rotation, balance, stability and body awareness all influence how comfortably and efficiently a golfer can move.
Hellen’s Golf Yoga Method combines an understanding of golf swing biomechanics with yoga-based movements designed specifically for golfers.
Together, Simon and Hellen bring golf coaching and movement together in a practical way, helping golfers better understand both their swing and the body producing it.
Their Par & Pamper Golf & Yoga Retreat brings that approach to life, combining PGA coaching, Golf Yoga, golf, wellbeing and time to relax in a small-group environment.
Simon’s approach
Keep it simple
Golf is complicated enough. Good coaching should make things clearer, not give you twenty new thoughts to take onto the first tee.
Work with the golfer you are
There is no single swing that suits everybody. Your golf needs to work for your body, your ability and the way you play.
Improve the score, not just the swing
Technique matters, but so do course management, short game, confidence and decision-making.
Learn on the course
The range is useful. The golf course tells you what really happens.
Enjoy it
Golf is supposed to be enjoyable. That should never get lost in the pursuit of improvement.
A new chapter
Simon’s golf trips are the natural next chapter of a career spent helping people get more from the game.
They bring together decades of coaching experience with the opportunity to travel, play interesting courses and spend time with golfers in a relaxed environment.
For Simon, that is what makes these trips special.
There is time to coach properly.
Time to play.
Time to talk about golf.
And time to enjoy everything that surrounds it.
If you love golf and like the idea of experiencing it somewhere new, you will be very welcome.
Whether you are travelling alone, with a partner or with friends, the aim is the same.
Play some excellent golf.
Learn something useful.
Meet good people.
And come home having had a very good trip.
